Responsibilities

Academic Supervision and Administrative Management of Bachelor of Education Program

  • Oversee administrative tasks related to the program, including admissions, scheduling, and evaluation.
  • Develop curriculum and course materials for the Bachelor of Education Program for successful launch and implementation of the Bachelor of Education Program.
  • Coordinate faculty members and resources for the program for effective management of academic and administrative activities.
  • Supervise program activities, including course scheduling and student advising to achievement of program goals and objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with accreditation standards and monitor student progress and outcomes.

Teaching

  • Independently design, plan, teach Bed, Master’s and PhD level courses and supervise students.
  • Independently design and teach professional development programmes at the Continuing Professional Education (CPE), Cert. Ed and Advanced Diploma level in the relevant specialization.
  • Conform to University’s policies and established performance norms for evaluation of students/ course participants ensuring that this is based on fair and equitable parameters and provide required feedback to students for the same.

Research and Publications

  • Conduct independent as well as collaborative research studies for Publication and dissemination of scholarly work in relevant forums
  • Write research and grant proposals for seeking internal and external funding.
  • Publish monographs, edited books, articles and book chapters in high quality publications.
  • Present research findings/papers at national and international conferences.
  • Periodically organize seminars, workshops and conferences.

Services

  • Offer specialized consultancy to national and international organizations to strengthened institutional engagement, and improved service delivery efficiency
  • Engage as a valued member on AKU-IED and university committees.
  • Provide leadership within local professional associations.
  • Maintain responsiveness to urgent service needs and meet deadlines efficiently.

Educational Projects and Leadership

  • Seek, lead, monitor, evaluate and implement grant funded projects (research and outreach) as assigned to achieve impactful research and outreach through grant-funded projects.
  • Assume leadership responsibilities for various programmes of AKU-IED.
  • Mentor junior faculty members to facilitate their development for teaching and research.

 

Requirements

  • Advanced degree (Ph.D. preferred) in English/Mathematics or Social Studies.
  • Experience managing a Bachelor of Education program at a recognized university.
  • Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience in English, Mathematics, or Social Studies.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise PhD students in Education.
  • Track record of research and publications in relevant peer reviewed journals and of teaching at the post-graduate level.
  • Familiarity with accreditation standards and processes.

Knowledge and Competencies

  • Strong conceptual, analytical and communication abilities in both oral and written forms
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work well in teams
  • Proficiency in writing research and outreach proposals
  • Evidence of academic/project leadership
  • Demonstrable evidence of learning and growing professionally in academia
  • Proficiency in use of relevant computer software packages
  • Experience of offering courses in blended learning mode.
  • Knowledge of current trends and best practices in education.
